Ottawa, THE CAPITAL OF CANADA




Ottawa is the national capital of Canada which is the second largest country in the world. Only Russia has a greater land Canada is situated in North America. About 28 million people live in Canada. Canada is an independent nation. But according to the Constitution Act of 1982 British Monarch is recognized as the monarch of Canada.

Ottawa is situated in northeast North America, in the Province of Ontario, Canada. It is Canada’s fourth largest city with over 900,000 residents. The size of the Ottawa region is 2,796 square kilometres.

Ottawa has a humid continental climate. The city experiences four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and humid in Ottawa. The average July maximum temperature is 26 degrees above zero, although daytime temperatures of 30 degrees or higher are commonplace. Snow and ice are dominant during the winter season. The average January temperature is 11 degrees below zero, although sometimes it is very cold – 30 degrees below zero.

Ottawais a multicultural and bilingual city. English(50%) and French(32%) are the main languages spoken in Ottawa. There are also hear many other languages, as about 25 percent of its residents are from other countries.

Ottawa is home to the Parliament of Canada, the House of Commons, the Senate, the Privy Council, the Supreme Court, the Federal Court and the Bank of Canada. Ottawa is also the permanent residence of the Governor General of Canada as well as the official residence of the Prime Minister of Canada.

Ottawa’s philosophy is that knowledge is the key to maintaining high standards of living and sustaininga competitive edge in today’s world markets. That is why the capital has many schools, universities, colleges and R&D centres.

The Canadian capital is a high-technology centre, it can boast of more engineers, scientists and PhD graduates per capita than any other city in Canada. More than 1,800 advanced technology companies employ more than 76,000 people.

Ottawa is one of the world’s safest and most beautiful cities to live, to work, to learn and to raise a family. The city is home to a wide range of age groups from families with children to adult professionals to university students and senior citizens.

Ottawa is endowed with a number of national museums, parks, squares, theatres, cinemas, large shopping centres, etc., making Ottawa a bright and beautiful landscape for all to enjoy.Besides Ottawa has got an access to three major waterways, this fact makes the city a joy for outdoor enthusiasts.Canada’s capital welcomes over 7.3 million visitors per year, who spend over $1.18 billion.
