Ø Для лингвостилистической интерпретации текста выбираются отрывки из оригинальных художественных, публицистических и научно-популярных произведений, а также законченные рассказы и эссе английских, американских и австралийских авторов, классических и современных, известных и неизвестных студентам.
Комплексный анализ может включать следующие виды заданийинтерпретационного характера:
A) Short Story Analysis
1) Define the theme of the extract.
2) Define the style of the story. Point out some of the characteristic features of it.
3) Comment on the composition of the story. Point out the introduction, the climax, the anti-climax if there are any. Motivate your choice.
4) Name the characters of the extract. What methods of characterization are used in the portrayal of each? Do a thorough analysis of all the portrait-sketches illustrating what you say with quotations from the text.
5) Define the dominant atmosphere of the narrative. By what stylistic devices is it created? Give examples.
6) Comment on the manner of the writer. Is his style lucid or obscure? Say what tropes (stylistic devices) he/she uses in the text. What is the effect achieved by this?
B) Essay Analysis
1) Define the theme of the essay.
2) Define the type of essay (narrative, descriptive, persuasive, argumentative, biographical, autobiographical/ formal-informal)
3) Comment on the title of the essay.
4) Locate the essay thesis. Comment on the way the thesis is expressed.
5) Define the types of supporting evidence in the essay (illustration, description, definition, analysis, comparing/contrasting, cause/effect, narration, description). How effective are these supporting evidence in convincing the reader of the author’s claim?
6) Comment on the use of stylistic devices in the essay and the way they assist in clarifying the author’s ideas on the theme.
Ø Для комментария подбираются статьи на русском языке, проблематика которых связана с темами, изученными студентами в течение трёх последних лет обучения.
