ABOUT MYSELF AND MY FAMILY.




 

Our family is not large: Father, Mother, my wife and me.

I’ll start with myself. My name is Dmitry Ivanov. I was born in Murmansk. I studied at school 21and my favourite subjects were maths, history and literature. After leaving school I served in the army for two years. Then I worked as a mechanic at a plant. Now I work and study at the MSTU. I am a first-year student of the correspondence faculty (a specialized field of Automobile and automobile service).

I am married. My wife’s name is Olga. She doesn’t work now, she studies at a medical college and looks after our little son.

My father’s name is Victor. He is a driver. He is 55. He is a good specialist and likes his work. My mother’s name is Natalia. She is 50 years old but looks much younger. She’s tall and slender. With her dark hair and brown eyes she looks very attractive, besides she is always well-dressed. She works as a teacher at a technical college. My parents are very busy people but they find time for a theatre, exhibitions and of course for their friends. On Sundays our family often gets together to discuss the latest news. On the whole we get along fine. I respect my parents and I love my wife and little son.

SEASONS

 

1. There are four seasons in a year: winter, spring, summer an autumn. Each of them is beautiful in its own way. Winter is white and cold, spring is green and full of blossom, summer is bright and energetic, and autumn is golden and full of charm.

2. In winter you can see a lot of snow. The weather is very cold, windy and snowy. The temperature is usually below zero. But many people like winter because they can ski and skate, play snowballs. There are many holidays in winter. My favourite holiday is the New Year.

3. In spring the nature awakens after long winter sleep. Green grass and tiny green leaves appear everywhere. Birds sing their merry songs. The sun shines brightly. The weather is warm.

4. Summer is the most beautiful season. The weather is hot and sunny. Many people have their holiday in summer and go to the seaside. You can swim and lie in the sun, or you can walk in the forest and have a good rest. There are a lot of flowers everywhere.

5. In autumn the trees become yellow, brown and red. The leaves fall down on the ground and dance in the wind. The weather is often windy and rainy. There are many clouds in the sky. People like to pick up mushrooms and berries in the forest.

A) MY WORKING DAY

1. On weekdays the alarm-clock wakes me up at 6.30 and my working day begins.

2. I'm not an early riser, that's why it's very difficult for me to get out of bed, especially in winter.

3. I switch on my tape-recorder and do my morning exercises.

4. Then I go to the bathroom, take a warm shower and clean my teeth.

5. After that I go to my bedroom to get dressed.

6. Usually my mother (wife) makes breakfast for me.

7. But when she is away on business or just doesn't have to get up early, I make breakfast myself.

8. While having breakfast I listen to the latest news on the radio.

9. I leave the house at 7.30 and go to the nearest bus stop.

10. As I live (not) far from my work it takes me only 15 minutes to get there.

11. I don't want to be late so I come to work a few minutes before the beginning.

12. My work begins at 8 o'clock in the morning and is over at half past 5 in the afternoon.

13. After work I go home and have dinner there.

14. I usually have something substantial for dinner, for example, cabbage soup for the first course, hot meat or fish with some vegetables for the second.

15. Then I drink a cup of tea or milk.

16. Sometimes I go to the canteen or cafe and have dinner (lunch) there.

17. After dinner I have a short rest, read newspapers, make some telephone calls, go to the bakery.

18. Then I prepare for my classes.

19. We study many subjects at the university and it takes me three or even more hours to do the homework.

20. Sometimes I go to the library to get ready for my tests or to write a report.

21. As a rule I have no free time, but if I have I read books, watch TV, play computer games or do something about the house.

22. Eight o'clock is supper time in our family.

23. We all get together in the kitchen, then go to the sitting-room and watch TV, read books or discuss different problems.

24. Once a week I usually go to the University for consultations with my teachers.

25. At about 11 at night I go to bed.

 

B) MY WORKING DAY

 

 

1. On weekdays the alarm clock rings at 6.30 and I get up.

2. I don’t like to get up early but I must.

3. I go to the bathroom and wash myself.

4. Usually I take a warm shower, clean my teeth and shave.

5. Then I make my bed and dress.

6. Then I go to the kitchen and have my breakfast.

7. Usually I have a cup of tea or coffee with a sandwich.

8. I leave the house and go to work.

9. Usually I go by bus (car).

10. My work begins at 8 o’clock.

11. At 1 p.m. I have dinner at a canteen.

12. I finish my work at 5 p.m. and go home.

13. At home I rest a little, have supper, read newspapers and watch TV.

14. My favourite programme is ….

15. I go to bed at 11 p.m. because I have to get up very early.

25. Reading is my hobby.

26. Sometimes we receive quests at our place or go for a walk.

B) MY DAY OFF

2. They are Saturday and Sunday.

3. I like these days very much.

4. You needn’t hurry anywhere and may have a rest after long week of work.

5. On these days I wake up later than usual.

6. Sometimes I don’t get up till 10 a.m.

7. I watch TV or read newspapers or listen to music.

8. Then I have my breakfast, clear away the dishes and wash up.

9. I meet my friends and we discuss some problems or go anywhere together.

10. We may go to the café, to the museum, to the cinema or theatre, or to the exhibition.

11. In autumn we also like to go out the city.

12. We find a nice place somewhere in the forest, make fire, …

13. In winter my friends and I often go skiing.

14. When the weather is bad we go to my place, watch TV together, listen to music or just have a chat.

15. In the evenings all the members of my family get together.

16. We have supper, make plans for tomorrow, watch TV or read books.
