BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the course "Modern problems of Biotechnology in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry" is to introduce the Masters with the basic methods and approaches of developing:
•highly sensitive and specific methods for diagnosis of infectious and parasitic diseases;
• medicines and vaccines derived from recombinant microorganisms;
• test systems for rapid detection of pathogens of dangerous infectious diseases in biological materials or samples taken from the environment;
• methods for improving productivity and quality of livestock products, strategies for using transgenic animals - producers of biologically active substances;
• production of feed protein, probiotics, vitamins, antibiotics and other microbial metabolites
• methods of control over the production and consumption of biotechnology products
Course objectives is:
- to familiarize Masters with new developments and achievements of modern Biotechnology in the field of diagnosis and prevention of infectious and parasitic diseases as well as reproduction of animals with useful properties.
By the end of the course Masters must acquire skills on:
- • using modern laboratory equipment;
• conducting research on the diagnosis of infectious and parasitic diseases with the help of a variety of variants of ELISA, immunochromatographic assay, polymerase chain reaction and other tests;
• using the achievements of cell and genetic engineering techniques to improve disease diagnosis, obtaining medical preparations and vaccines as well as improving productivity and disease resistance of animals;
• determining the actual problems of modern biotechnology and developing applications for participation in the competition of scientific projects in the field of veterinary medicine and animal husbandry.►
