Задание 1. Ответьте на вопросы (3-5 предложений):
Do you agree that the weather is like a capricious woman? Prove your point.
No, I don't agree with this opinion. We do nature a grave disservice if we apply restraint when there should be none. As a result, the weather can be changeable. Some regions have marked seasonal differences in rainfall, while others have year-round precipitation. Apparently all capricious women are different.
Say what weather you like best of all and why.
My favorite weather condition is when the sky is pure blue, little to no clouds at all and the temperature range is between 25–30 degrees Celsius. I don’t like it when it’s cloudy.
Do you listen to the weather forecasts? Do you trust them? Have you heard the weather forecast for today? Was it right?
I rarely listen to the forecast but I trust them. I heard the weather forecast for today. The forecast said it will sunny.
4. Look at the pictures and say what the weather is like in them.
1) In the first picture we can see early spring. The birds are coming from the South. The snow is melting. Kids are playing with paper boats.
2) In the first picture we can see beautiful winter. Snow is falling. Those are children playing games. A girl is skating with little girl.
3) In the first picture we can see rainy autumn. It’s raining. Birds flying South. The leaves are falling in the empty parks.
4) In the fourth picture we can see warm summer. The children on the beach are building a sand castle. Other kids are playing ball. Trees are blooming.

4. (frost, hoarfrost)

5. (draught, drought)

7. (blizzard, drizzle)
a) Boring drizzle spoiled the day. It was too wet and dull. – Надоедливая морось испортила день. Было слишком дождливо и пасмурно.

8. (light, lightning)
a) There is not enough light in the room. The table should be moved closer to the window. – В комнате недостаточно света. Стол должен быть перемещен ближе к окну.

3. Прочитайте и переведите прогнозы погоды:
I. General situation: Many eastern coastal areas of England will stay cloudy and cool, with patchy light drizzle during the morning. Western parts of Wales and south-west England will be cloudy with showery outbreaks of rain, although western Wales will brighten up during the afternoon. The rest of England and Wales will stay warm and dry with hazy sunshine, although there will be a brisk easterly breeze. Showery rain over Northern Ireland will clear during the afternoon. Scotland will be dry with sunny periods, but eastern coasts will be cloudy and western areas may have rain during the morning.
Общее положение: во многих восточных прибрежных районах Англии будет облачно и прохладно с небольшими осадками утром. В западных частях Уэльса и на юго-западной Англии будет облачно с ливневыми дождями, хотя в западном Уэльсе погода прояснится днем. Остальная часть Англии и Уэльса будет оставаться теплой и сухой с переменным солнцем, хотя будет восточный ветерок. Проливной дождь над Северной Ирландией пройдет во второй половине дня. II. Cloud and outbreaks of rain over England and Wales will clear during the morning. The afternoon will be mostly dry with bright or sunny spells, although wintry showers will develop at times in the north and north-west.
Scotland and Northern Ireland will have another cold day with sunshine and blustery showers expected. The showers will be heavy in places and falling as snow over the high ground.
Outlook: Bright with wintry showers at times, especially in the north. Rain spreading eastwards on Monday.
Облачность и переменный дождь над Англией и Уэльсом рассеются утром. Днем будет в основном сухо с переменным солнцем, хотя иногда на севере и северо-западе будут развиваться холодные дожди.

III. Forecast: A dry, sunny start over England and Wales, but there may be light showers adjacent to the southern North Sea. Western Scotland and Northern Ireland will become cloudy during the morning with outbreaks of rain moving to these areas by midday. This weather will spread south-eastwards to all parts of Scotland, north-west England and north Wales by the evening. Temperatures: 8 C° (46 F°) in East Anglia, 10 C° (50 F°) in Northern Ireland.
Outlook: Little change in southern and eastern parts of England during Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be cool nights with frost and possibly patchy fog, but die with sunny spells during daylight hours. Early cloud and rain in north-western districts will gradually die out during Tuesday.

IV. Weather: England and Wales will start cloudy with outbreaks of rain. However, brighter, showery weather already over Scotland and Northern Ireland will slowly spread south and east throughout the day. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the north, falling as sleet or snow over hills and mountains, with drifting occurring in places. It will feel cold in the blustery and strong westerly wind.
Outlook: Sunny intervals and showers are expected. Feeling colder than of late in the north-westerly wind.
Погода: В Англии и Уэльсе начнется облачность с дождями. Однако, более солнечная, дождливая погода уже над Шотландией и Северной Ирландией будет медленно распространяться на юг и восток в течение дня. Дожди будут самыми сильными и наиболее частыми на севере, выпадая в виде мокрого снега или снега на холмы и горы, а местами – градом. Будет холодный бушующий сильный ветер с запада.
