Task #1 Paraphrase the text CLIMATE/WEATHER The weather of our country is well known as changeable. The degree of hotness and coldness significantly from northwards to southwards. The regular, ordinary temperature in the middle of winter for instance borders from -18C to -3C northwards to southwards, at the same time in the middle of summer it raises to at intervals 19C and 30C. WILDLIFE. TASK: PARAPHRASE WITH SYNONYMS! Nowadays the wildlife of our country consists of 158 kinds of mammals, 458 types of birds, 52 sorts of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians, and 150 different fish, 19 species of animals and 23 of birds. They are included into the International Red Book of limited or threatened animals. In the highlands of the Zailiiski Alatau only, there are approximately 50 kinds of mammals, 141 types of birds and 3 different fish. In the steppes flock of koulans and jeirans scratch. Uninhabited bare places are occupied with enormous lizards, snakes and spiders. On the high point of its highlands snow leopards -mountain turkeys exist. Our Motherland is populated with birds, marmots, wild sheep, the Tien Shan brown bear, flamingoes and swans.
THE BRITISH ATTITUDES TO ANIMALS AND THEIR TREATMENT There are six and a half million dogs and six to eight million cats in Britain. This means that approximately one in ten people own a dog or a cat. They also support over 380 charities and societies which aim to protect animals. These include donkey sanctuaries, horses rest homes and dog and cat sanctuaries. The RSPCA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to animals) is the largest animal welfare society in Britain. It provides practical help to animals in homes, hospitals and clinics. The Bransby Home of Rest for Horses looks after about 100rescued horses, ponies and donkeys. However there are still 250 000 homeless dogs in Britain. People still go fox hunting and the sport of dog fighting is coming back.
“THE CITY OF APPLES” Almaty is a unique town. It is a green city. American Rockwell Kent upon coming in Almaty in the 1960s put down «Alma-Ata is definitely a great city for its green beauty». I believe, I was going around a green wood. Apartments are on the whole hidden by trees". The city is dressed with a lot of parks and gardens, fountains and flower-beds. The word "almaty" points"with apple" in Kazakh. For the first time, the city was namedAlma-Ata which is "father of apples". Anyway, the meaning of the name city has constantly been united with the word "apple". The ancient town of Almaty was an oasis along the Silk Road right where contemporaryAlmaty is located. The paths of ancient town are still found in the center of Almaty. Almaty was the capital of Kazakhstan until November 1997. Astana is the new capital of the Motherland. After all, throughout the President's Decree of October 20, 1997 Almaty has the special status of the republican city. With the new status the city became a small state in a state - "a specific Hong Kong". It holds different international events and it remains the great scientific and cultural heart of Kazakhstan.
“OLD SQUARE” The Old Square is situated on Tole Bi Street, between Panfilov Street and Abylai Khan Avenue. Its design is a little contrasting/various than that of the Republic Square. It was plannedin 1957 in one of the Moscow architecture laboratories/studious. This was the past/previous building for the House of Parliament. It is circled by lovely parks and fountains.
“Television Tower” The TV complex is situated on the hills (скат) of Koktobe. It is 1.000 m. The view sightison the height/levelof 140 meters.The tower is crowned with a 114 meter high metalaerial/antenna. It is also outfitted with two high-speed lifts.
THE CENTRAL STATE MUSEUM The Central State Museum of our Motherland is situated in Samal-1 district in Almaty. It was created in 1986. The Central Museum is the home of the Republic’s richest collections. The history of Kazakhstan comes alive in 120 000 points/ items constantly/always exhibited in its four halls. One of the exhibitions/attractions is a collecting of presents/gifts and souvenirs given to the President N. Nazarbaev by heads of other states and well-known people.
“Shymbulak” Highland ski resort Shymbulak is located at 2.200-2.500 meters in the beautiful Shymbulak Gorge. It is wonderfulfor its warm/mild weather with a numerous sunny/shiny days. The ordinary December temperature is -6,3C. After the snow/ snowfall,its powder is as good as anywhere else in the world. The resort has a five floored hotel and cottages next to for rent.
