THE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGICAL PROGRESS ON SOCIETY
Technology change s the world around it. Technological change touches almost every area of society. From the time that man first picked up a pointed stick to use in the hunt, to the day when computers took over many of the trading tasks on the stock market, technological change has steadily increased in speed and impact.
Improvements in health, through advances in farming technology that increase the availability of nutritious food and advances in health care technology in both drugs and treatment, have changed the demographics of the world population. Even a hundred years ago, far fewer children survived childhood. Surging population growth has driven up land usage, consumed resources such as water, oil and minerals and forced emigration. As cities spread, they cover up arable land, reducing the total amount available to grow food.

Технология меняет мир вокруг себя. Технологическое изменение затрагивает почти все сферы жизни. С момента, когда человек впервые научился использовать заостренную палку для охоты, до того дня, когда компьютеры приняли на себя многие задачи торговли на оптовом рынке, технологические изменения стабильно набрали скорость и влияние.
Улучшения здоровья с помощью развития технологий в фермерстве, которые увеличили доступность продуктов питания, и улучшения в системе здравоохранения в виде лекарств и лечения изменили демографию мирового населения. Даже 100 лет назад, выживало гораздо меньше детей. Большая волна почти населения привела к выработке земли, использованию таких ресурсов, как вода, нефть, минералы, привела к вынужденной миграции. В связи со своим ростом города занимают культивируемые земли, сокращая ее количество для выращивания еды.
Задание 2. Найдите в тексте английские эквиваленты следующих слов и словосочетаний, выпишите их в тетрадь: общество – society, население земли – world population, развитые страны - developed countries, получить хорошо оплачиваемую работу - to get a well-paying job, экономика - economics, вырубка лесов - clear-cutting of forests, загрязнять водоемы и землю - pollute waterways and land, отдаленные уголки - distant places, токсичные отходы - toxic waste, палка - stick.

From the time that man first picked up a pointed stick to use in the hunt, to the day when computers took over many of the trading tasks on the stock market, technological change has steadily increased in speed and impact.
2. Are there any disadvantages in global computerization? Labourer jobs have tended to disappear. The environmental degradation has increased.
3. What influence do modern technologies have on environment? Many technologies produce toxic waste: vehicles and homes consume power which produces airborne toxins, and factories and cities produce human and industrial waste that can pollute waterways and land.
