ВВЕДЕНИЕ

Владение иностранным языком способствует формированию всесторонне развитой личности, открывает доступ к культурным и научным ценностям других народов, облегчает и обеспечивает установление с ними деловых и культурных связей.

Методические указания и контрольные задания контрольной работы для специальности 43.02.11 Гостиничный сервис по учебной дисциплине «Иностранный (английский) язык (профессиональный)» для заочной формы обучения разработаны в соответствии с ФГОС.

В структуре данного пособия, кроме программы, содержится список литературы, рекомендуемой студентам заочной формы обучения.

Контрольная работа №1 содержит задания по теме «Профессиональная деятельность». Цель работы: проработка определенного грамматического материала и пополнение словарного запаса. В результате оцениваются: умение понимать содержание текстов, переводить их со словарем, умение студента использовать знание лексики практически.

Для успешного выполнения контрольного задания необходимо проработать следующий грамматический материал:

Артикль как признак существительного. Формальные признаки существительного.

Множественное число существительных. Притяжательный падеж существительных. Неопределенные местоимения some, any, no и их производные. Употребление степени сравнения прилагательных и наречий, much, many. Числительные (количественные и порядковые). Оборот there is/are. Личные местоимения, указательные местоимения и местоимение it. Безличные предложения, предлоги. Глаголы to be, to have. Глаголы в действительном залоге: Present, Past, Future Simple Tense; Present, Past, Future Progressive Tense. Модальные глаголы и их эквиваленты. Типы вопросительных предложений: общий вопрос, специальный вопрос, разъединительные вопросы.

Рекомендуется следующая последовательность овладения знаниями курса: сначала изучить соответствующий материал по грамматике по учебной литературе, а затем выполнить один из вариантов контрольной работы.

 

ВЫПОЛНЕНИЕ КОНТРОЛЬНЫХ ЗАДАНИЙ

И ОФОРМЛЕНИЕ КОНТРОЛЬНЫХ РАБОТ

1. Контрольная работа должна быть выполнена, прорецензирована до начала экзаменационной сессии.

2. Каждое контрольное задание предлагается в 3 вариантах. Вы должны выполнить один из 3 вариантов. Вариант следует выбирать в зависимости от того, с какой буквы начинается фамилия студента.

Первый вариант выполняют студенты, фамилии которых начинаются

с букв А, Б, В, Г; Д, Е, Ж, З, И;

второй вариант – с букв К, Л, М, Н, О, П, Р, С, Т;

третий вариант – с букв У, Ф, Х, Ц, Ч, Ш, Щ, Э, Ю, Я

Выполнять письменные контрольные задания следует в отдельной тетради.

3. Контрольные работы должны выполняться чернилами, аккуратно, четким почерком.

4. При выполнении контрольной работы оставляйте в тетради широкие поля для замечаний, объяснений и методических указаний рецензента.

5. Материал контрольного задания следует располагать в тетради по следующему образцу:

6. Контрольные задания должны быть выполнены в той последовательности, в которой они даны в настоящих методических указаниях.

7. Выполненные контрольные работы направляйте для проверки и рецензирования в колледж в установленные сроки.

8. Если контрольная работа выполнена без соблюдения указаний или не полностью, она возвращается без проверки.

9. При выполнении контрольной работы на компьютере требования к расположению материала остаются такими же, как и при выполнении контрольной работы в тетради.

 

ИСПРАВЛЕНИЕ РАБОТЫНА ОСНОВЕ РЕЦЕНЗИИ

1. При получении от рецензента проверенной контрольной работы внимательно прочитайте рецензию, ознакомьтесь с замечаниями рецензента и проанализируйте отмеченные в работе ошибки.

2. Руководствуясь замечаниями рецензента, проанализируйте еще раз учебный материал. Все предложения, в которых были обнаружены орфографические или грамматические ошибки или неточности перевода, перепишите набело в исправленном виде в конце данной контрольной работы.

3. Помните о том, что во время зачета или экзамена производится проверка усвоения материала, вошедшего в контрольные сроки.

Hotel Types

A hotel is a place where a traveler may find food and shelter. There are a lot of places to stay in every town and city. Places to stay are called hotels, motels, inns, lodges or resort hotels. There are also commercial hotels, congress hotels, airport hotels and many others.

A luxury hotel provides every facility a wealthy guest might need.

A commercial hotel is situated in a town centre, and offers accommodation for travelling businessmen, staying only for one or two nights.

A congress hotel provides everything necessary for large meetings and conferences, with a lecture theatre and exhibition facilities.

An airport hotel offers accommodation for people going out or coming from different countries, usually staying for one night.

A country house hotel is situated in pleasant scenery, and provides comfortable but informal accommodation for people who want to relax in a quiet place.

A guest home or an inn offers low-priced accommodation, usually on a small scale, for holiday visitors or for long-stay guests.

A motel is a hotel which provides services to motorists. It usually has plenty of parking spaces and is situated near a freeway or highway.

A resort hotel is situated in a place where tourists like to stay, often near the sea, lake or in the mountains. Guests usually book it in advance.

B&B is a small hotel, a kind of boarding house, which offers home-like low-priced accommodation and the morning meal for visitors where letters B&B stand for “bed and breakfast”.

The hotel may be 5-star hotels, 4-star hotels, 3-star hotels, etc.

1-star hotels and inns are generally of small scale with good facilities and furnishings, adequate bath and lavatory arrangements.

2-star hotels have more spacious accommodation, with two-thirds of the bedrooms containing a private bathroom/shower with lavatory, fuller meal facilities are provided.

3-star hotels offer a higher standard of accommodation 20 per-cent of bedrooms containing a private bathroom or shower with lavatory.

4-star hotels offer a high standard of comfort and service, with all bedrooms providing a private bathroom/shower with a lavatory

5-star hotels have spacious accommodation and offer the highest international standard of comfort and service.

Exercise 8. Read the dialogue. Translate it into Russian.

A: Hello, Reception. What can I do for you?

B: Hello, I want to stay for the weekend, so I’d like to get some information about your hotel.

A: Yes, please. What would you like to know?

B: First of all, is it far from the city centre?

A: No, our hotel is located in the very centre. And there are a lot of cinemas and clubs near there.

B: Well, and what about restaurants? Are there any?

A: Of course, there are two bars, a coffee shop and a restaurant with excellent music.

B: Is there a sauna, I wonder?

A: Sure, there are also a solarium and a gym here too.

B: O.K. But you see the problem is that I have a small child. Is there anybody to stay with him?

A: Don’t worry, We’ll solve your problem, we have a baby-sitter on request and there is a children’s playground.

B: That is great. And the last thing I want to know, how much is a family room?

A: That is $50 per person, per night and the child is free. There is an extra bed in a family room.

B: That suits me. I’d like to book a room in your hotel. Can you send me your brochure for more information?

A: Sure, I’ll put down your address and you’ll get it in a week.

B: Thank you very much.

A: You are welcome.

Exercise 2. Translate into Russian.

As soon as you are through with the customs, you will most probably take a taxi to a hotel. It is best to book a room in advance. In this case you will be sure to stay at a hotel without any problems. You can book a room by telephone or by telegram.

In many hotels a porter takes your luggage and shows you the way to the receptionist’s desk. The receptionist will most probably ask you for how many days (nights) you are going to stay at the hotel. He may offer you a room (a single or a double room, a suite, etc.) with all modern conveniences (bath, telephone, TV). Then he will ask you to sign in. In this case you have to sign your name in a hotel register (book). In the USA you have to put down your name, nationality and address in a special registration form (fill in a form).

When this formality is over, the receptionist gives you your key and the porter shows you up to your room. Now you are referred to as a «guest». When going out you are supposed to leave your key at the desk. All the keys are hung on a special key- rack.

The room charge (price) usually includes your breakfast. Sometimes it includes the service paid additionally.

The guests are requested to warn the receptionist in advance about the day and hour of signing out so that he could have the bill ready for them in time. Make sure that the bill is ready one day before leaving.

B: Oh, look, this is our hotel.

A: What a skyscraper! Let’s come in. Remember, first of all we must come to the receptionist’s desk.

B: What for?

A: We’ll have to fill in. He’ll also give us the keys.

B: Who will take us up to the room?

A: The porter will do it.

B: What room will we take a double or a suite?

A: I prefer a single room.

B: All right. Does the room charge include breakfast or some additional services, I wonder?

The Astoria Hotel

Saint Petersburg is a world famous city and the second largest in our country. The Astoria Hotel is located in the very heart of the city. The hotel has 430 guest rooms for a total of 800 beds. They include modern apartments, suites, double and single rooms. Most of the guest-rooms are double rooms. There is a sauna, a swimming pool, a fitness centre, a laundry, repairs and dry cleaning and a souvenir kiosk at the hotel. The hotel also runs a “Rent-a- Car” service.

At the hotel you have at your service three restaurants: “Winter Garden” seating 140, “Astoria” – 150 seats, “Angleterre” for 154 guests; a banquet hall for 130 seats, a grill-restaurant seating 60, two cabinets for 28 seats, several bars, cafés and buffets.

The Astoria Hotel has a business centre which is equipped with all kinds of modern facilities and a conference hall for 200 seats. At the service bureau you can get the necessary travel information. The clerks will help you in ordering any kind of public services and tickets. The Astoria Hotel is the best hotel in Russia. Many well-known political leaders, actors, singers, artists and poets stayed at this hotel.

B: It is exactly what I wanted. Do you have at your service any restaurants?

A: At the hotel you have at your service three restaurants: “Winter Garden” seating 140, “Astoria” – 150 seats, “Angleterre” for 154 guests.

B: Is there a sauna or something like that?

A: Of course we have a sauna, and also a swimming pool and a fitness centre for our guests to be not only in a good shape, but in a good mood as well.

B: Thank you for such detailed information. See you in a week. We would be glad to visit your hotel. Good-bye.
