SECOND CONDITIONAL

Look at questions again. Are they about a past situation? Эти вопросы касаются ситуации в прошлом? Are they about a real or imagined future situation? Они о реальной или воображаемой ситуации? What tense is the verb after if? Какое время используется после if? How do you translate would? Как перевести слово would?

Это еще один тип условных предложений.

Write down the rules

Name Second Conditional
Rule We use the Second Conditional to talk about an unreal present or future situation and its result. Используем, когда говорим о нереальной ситуации в настоящем или будущем и ее результате. # If I had a job, I'd get my own flat. (= I don't have a job, I'm imagining it.)
Structure 1. NB1:The if-sentence uses the Past Simple, but the meaning is not past. Несмотря на то, что мы используем Past Simple, мы не говорим о прошлом. If I had more money now, I would take a trip around the world. NB2: After if we can use was or were with I, he, and she. If your sister were here, she'd know what to do. Use were with the structure If I were you (на твоем месте) If I were you, I'd buy a new computer. 2. You can also use modal verbs in the result sentence.   If they took a trip, they could/might go to Japan.
