КОСВЕННАЯ РЕЧЬ
При переводе из прямой речи в косвенную, то есть, когда мы своими словами пересказываем содержание того, что было сказано другими, соблюдается правило согласования времен.
Основные положения согласования времен сводятся к следующему:
1. Если сказуемое главного предложения выражено глаголом в настоящем или будущем времени, то сказуемое придаточного предложения может стоять в любом времени, которое требуется по смыслу:
| Не says he | he studies English. he studied English. will study English. | Он говорит, | что изучает английский. что изучал английский. что будет изучать английский. |
2. Если сказуемое главного предложения стоит в прошедшем времени, то сказуемое придаточного предложения должно стоять в одном из прошедших времен. Выбор конкретной видо-временной формы определяется тем, происходит ли действие в придаточном предложении одновременно с главным, предшествует ему либо будет происходить в будущем:
| Не said he | he studied English. he had studied English. would study English. | Он сказал, | что изучает английский. что изучал английский. что будет изучать английский. |
3 Если сказуемое придаточного предложения выражает общеизвестный факт, правило согласования времен не соблюдается:
| The students were told that the Earth goes round the Sun, and the Moon goes round the Earth. | Ученикам сказали, что Земля вращается вокруг Солнца, а Луна вращается вокруг Земли. |
При преобразовании повествовательных предложений из прямой речи в косвенную производятся следующие изменения:
1) может употребляться союз that;
2) изменяются времена глаголов в соответствии с правилами согласования времен;
3) заменяются местоимения в зависимости от смысла;
4) глагол to say, за которым следует дополнение, заменяется глаголом to tell (без предлога to);
5) заменяются наречия места и времени:

Вопросительные предложения преобразуются следующим образом. Общие вопросы вводятся союзами if или whether (частица «ли »), порядок слов вопросительного предложения заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения:
| Не asked me, “Do you know my telephone number?” Не asked me if (whether) I knew his telephone number. | Он спросил меня: “Ты знаешь мой номер телефона?” Он спросил меня, знаю ли я номер его телефона. |
Специальные вопросы вводятся тем же вопросительным словом, с которого начинается прямая речь, порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения:
| Не asked me, “When will you come to my place?” He asked me when I would come to his place. | Он спросил меня: “Когда ты придешь ко мне?” Он спросил меня, когда я к нему приду. |
При преобразовании из прямой речи в косвенную глаголов в повелительном наклонении они остаются в форме инфинитива с частицей to:
| Не said to me, “Call me back later”. He asked me to call him back later. | Он сказал мне: “Перезвони мне позже”. Он попросил меня перезвонить ему позже. |
