Phil Warwick is a graduate of the Hastings College of Further Education, where he gained a B-TEC National Diploma in Business Studies. However he has spent most of his working life dealing with English. To teach it, he first gained his Trinity Cert. TESOL, and later also the prestigious Trinity Diploma TESOL. He is now a fully qualified English teacher trainer.

Phil has more than 20 years experience in English teaching acquired on three continents. On top of this, he can boast of extensive experience in school management, curriculum planning and methodology. Another large area of Phil’s skills lies in teacher training, which he has done in both the state and private sectors educating teachers from various environments of numerous countries. Phil has taught CELTA courses for teachers in the UK.

Phil is regularly invited as a speaker to conferences and educational program throughout Central Europe. He is co-author of several English teacher-training courses, which he helped to develop in the UK.

 

 

Karina S. Petrosyan

Karina is a teacher trainer in the International Book Distribution, Methodology and Consultancy Centre PILOT ELT. Shehas more than 20 years’ experience in teaching General, Academic and Business English, and English for Specific Purposes in the Southern Federal University. Working at the Department for Sciences, SFedU, she took part in developing a number of EAP and ESP materials and coursebooks both in paper and electronic formats.

Karina has also experience of working as a Cambridge ESOL Speaking Examiner (KET, PET and FCE); and an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Teacher Trainer.

Karina’s professional interests include:

· ELT Methodology

· Materials development in EFL (for students in Sciences)

· Pragmatics; Phraseology;Teaching ELF (English as a Lingua Franca); Cross-cultural communication, etc.

 

She thinks that attending practical seminars for teachers is invaluablefor multiple reasons:

§ to gain hands-on experience that can be applied in teachers’ own classrooms throughactive engagement in seminar activities;

§ to develop relationships with colleagues, shareknowledge, ideas and experience with them;

§ to learn from each other in a friendly and supportive atmosphere;

§ to discuss the problems that teachersface in today’s classroom, such as mixed ability classes, learners with low or zero motivation, insufficient teaching time to make learners achieve a required level of proficiency in English, etc.

Karina believes that seminars and workshops offering practical and up-to-date input on a wide range of teaching skills and methodology are a good way to reflect on practice, to stimulate everyday teaching with new classroom ideas and, as a result,to make our teaching truly fulfilling and rewarding.
