I. Introduction
Birth. It is a fundamental starting point of life which implies creativity and the beginning of something positive.Without birth we would not exist.
Everybody must know the history and events associated with the past. But, unfortunately, we do not interest about it. Every human life is closely linked with the past. The events of today will become part of history tomorrow.
My birthday is the most important day for me. That’s why I was interested in learning what events were in the world on the 3-rd of May. So I decided to explore that day in history.
The purpose of my research work is to learn the facts and events related to the date of my birth.
It was important to find out why my parents gave me the name "Valeria”. I tried to find information about holidays or other dates, connected with my birthday, what events took place in this period of history, about the traditions of celebrating birthdays in other countries. The day we are born corresponds to a zodiac sign and colour, number and precious stone all of which are meant to reveal something about our personality.
Why is it so important to me? On the one hand studying the information associated with my birth, my family and I spend a lot of time together remembering the day of my birth, which is very dear for my parents. On the other hand my work helped me to expand my horizons. Also I think that my work will be interesting for my classmates.
I decided to make this work in English. Why? At school I learn English and do it with great pleasure and interest.
For the achievement of this purpose the following problems have been put:

II. History of the holiday
When and where did the tradition of celebrating birthdays appear? Nobody can tell you exactly. There are two versions. One of them tells that Roman war brought the tradition of celebrating birthdays together with Eastern traditions, where it was decided to celebrate the birthday of the sun god Mitry. Another one tells us that followers of black magic believed that the human soul is most vulnerable at the moment of birth. Therefore, any wishes and curses uttered this day become spells. So appeared the tradition to celebrate this day with friends and avoid the presence of the enemy. The earliest mention of a birthday celebration dates back to 400 BC, which mentions the birthday celebration of the Roman emperor.
At first birthday celebrations were the privilege of kings. Royal birthdays were particularly pomp. It is known that Elizabeth spent so much money for celebrating her birthday that she could build a palace. Then the ceremonies for сhildrenwere allowed. The first country to start celebrating children's birthdays was Germany.
III. My birthday
My birthday is my favorite holiday. I want to tell you some words about the day of my birth. I was born in spring on the 3rd of May, 2006 in Minsk. I have got very kind parents. My mother`s name is Viсtoria. My father`s name is Alexander. We are a very close family. We are happy together.
My parents remember the day of my birth very well. The weather was wonderful. The sun was shining. The sky was blue. My father was so happy! His first little daughter appeared! He presented beautiful white roses to my mother. Since that time we celebrate my birthday every year. My parents come to my room to wake me up singing "Happy Birthday, dear Lera". Usually we celebrate it at home. We invite my friends and relatives to the party. We dance and sing songs, make jokes and play games. Mother brings the birthday cake and I blow the candles out.
The custom of lighting candles originated with people believing that the gods lived in the sky and by lighting candles and torches they were sending a signal or prayer to the gods so they could be answered. When you blow out the candles and make a wish this is another way of sending a signal and a messаge.
This is how we celebrate my birthday.
IV. Mystery of the birthday.
The day we are born corresponds to a zodiac sign, number and precious stone all of which are meant to reveal something about our personality.
