Вопросы в косвенной речи

(Reported/Indirect Questions)

При переводе вопросительных предложений из прямой в косвенную речь следует соблюдать следующие правила:

1. при переводе прямого вопроса в косвенный он превращается в дополнительное придаточное предложение. Вопросительный порядок слов заменяется порядком слов повествовательного предложения – сказуемое ставится после подлежащего;

2. личные и притяжательные местоимения заменяются по смыслу;

3. если в главном предложении глагол стоит в прошедшем времени, то в косвенном вопросе необходимо соблюдать правило согласования времен;

4. при переводе общих вопросов в косвенные они присоединяются к главному предложению с помощью союзов if, whether, которые переводятся на русский язык частицей «ли »

5. специальные вопросы вводятся соответствующими вопросительными словами (what, who, how, when …);

6. если прямая речь вводится глаголом to say, то в косвенной речи он заменяется глаголами to ask, to wonder, to want to know.

В разговорной речи косвенные вопросы используются как более вежливая форма прямого вопроса. Сравните:

Where is the bank? Can you tell me where the bank is?

Где банк? Не подскажете, где здесь банк?
