WHAT CAN YOU PERSONALLY DO TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
The environment is the air, water and land on earth, which can be harmed by man’s activities. More and more people realize that our planet is in danger and its future depends on environmental protection.
Each of us can do a lot to improve the situation.
First of all, we must stop littering our parks, forests, beaches and fields. It’s very easy to do and it can be extremely effective. Litter is not only ugly, but it can be harmful to wildlife. If you throw an aluminum can out of the train window, it will still litter the Earth up to 500 years later. Why don’t we pick up litter instead of throwing it?
We must stop wasting energy because more and more oil and coal has to be burnt and this causes pollution. We should turn the lights off when we don’t need them. I can easily do it. It’s only a matter of habit.
Every day we waste a lot of water. However, pure water resources are limited and it takes a lot of energy to recycle water in big cities. We can use less water by taking a shower instead of having a bath. In most countries people never leave the tap running when they clean their teeth or wash the dishes.
We throw away lots of mixed rubbish while in the European countries food, plastic and glass is collected separately to recycle and reuse as much as possible. There are empty bottles and old batteries banks there. People usually keep paper and aluminum cans for recycling. As soon as such scheme starts in Moscow I’ll join it.
We should stop using plastic bags. Billions of them get into the environment. On land they are everywhere. If they end up in the ocean they can harm sea creatures. If we stop buying such things their production will go down. It is also a good idea to buy rechargeable batteries. Ordinary batteries are highly poisonous if you throw them out with your waste,

You are just one of 7 billion people, who live on our Earth. So can your actions really make a difference to its future? The answer is yes, they certainly can.
Here are some ways in which you can begin to help the Earth right now r educing the size of your eco-footprint.
1. Try not to waste energy and water.
2. Before you throw anything away, stop and think. Might someone else have a use for it?
(Charities are often pleased to have old books, clothes and toys.)
3. Take as much rubbish as you can to local recycling centers.
4. Don’t waste paper. (When you are writing, use both sides of the paper.)
5. Before you buy anything, ask yourself if you really need it.
6. Walk or cycle whenever possible.
7. Never drop litter.
8. Help to clean up your local environment. Take part in cleaning campaign.
9.Try to reduce noise pollution. Don’t take your radio outside — other people may not
want to hear it.

Окружающая среда – это воздух, вода и суша на нашей планете, которым может причинять вред деятельность человека. Все больше и больше людей осознают, что наша планета находится в опасности и ее будущее зависит от защиты окружающей среды.
Каждый из нас может немало сделать для улучшения ситуации.
Прежде всего, мы должны прекратить мусорить в парках, лесах, на пляжах и полях. Это очень легко выполнимо и может быть чрезвычайно действенно (эффективно). Мусор не только отвратителен, но и может причинить вред дикой природе. Если вы выбросите алюминиевую банку из окна поезда, это загрязнит землю на 500 лет. Почему бы нам не начать подбирать мусор вместо того, чтобы разбрасывать его?
Мы должны экономить электричество, так как для его получения приходится сжигать все больше нефти и угля, что вызывает загрязнение атмосферы. Следует выключать светильники, которые нам не нужны. С этим я легко справлюсь. Это лишь дело привычки.
Каждый день мы впустую расходуем много воды. Нам недосуг выключить ее или починить текущий кран. Однако запасы чистой воды ограничены, а ее повторное использование требует больших затрат энергии. Мы можем экономить воду, принимая душ вместо ванны. В большинстве стран люди не оставляют открытыми краны с водой, когда чистят зубы или моют посуду.
Мы выбрасываем несортированный бытовой мусор, в то время как в европейских странах пищевые отходы, пластмасса и стекло собираются отдельно, чтобы повторно переработать и использовать все, что можно. Я слышал, что там существуют пункты приема старых батареек. Люди обычно сдают использованную бумагу и алюминиевые банки на переработку. Если бы такая система схема работала в Москве, я бы к ней присоединился
Нам следует прекратить использовать пластиковые пакеты. Они в огромном количестве попадают в окружающую среду. На суше они повсюду. Попадая в океаны, они вредят морским обитателям. Если мы прекратим покупать такие товары, их производство снизится. Также хорошая идея покупать заражающиеся батарейки. Обычные батарейки очень ядовиты, если выбрасывать их с мусором.
