7. Holidays and How to Spend Them
The whole point of a holiday is that it should be a change.
Most people like a change of scene. If they live in the country they like to go to large city and spend their time visiting museums, art galleries, cinemas and shops. If they are city-dwellers they prefer a quiet holiday in the hills or by the sea with nothing to do but walk, bathe and laze in the sun. Let’s compare some different opinions of an ideal holiday.
Nick: Mountains — that's my idea of a good rest. What I like
best of all is a long walk just before sunrise. Fresh air and physical exercises put life and vigour in to me.
Ann: Vacation is no vacation without the sea. One can never get tired of the sea. It’s beautiful in all kinds of weather, at all times of the day and night. Lazing in the sun at the beach is delightful. I get as brown as a nut and my coat of tan lasts for months.
Pete: I spend my holidays in the country. I love rural scenes and country life, simple food, plenty of rich milk and fresh air. In summer I eat my fill of fruits and vegetables. I just can't stand a place with no forest nearby. A long walk in the forest is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the city. I feel as fit as a fiddle after a month's rest in the country.
Chris: I have no particular likes or dislikes. I prefer an organized rest with nothing to worry about. I just relax and take things easy. Regular meals and planned recreations - that's my idea of a good rest,.
Jane: As for me I can't imagine a more perfect place to spend my vacations than Sochi. You can take long walks, breathe sea air, make trips to the fabulous lakes high up in the mountains or play volley-ball at the beach. As for the beauty of the Caucasian landscape... well, words fail me. And the weather usually leaves nothing to be desired.
