The importance of children’s games.

A. (1)In child development there is an important phenomenon shows very clearly the

process of preparation for the future: game.(2)Games often regarded as the haphazard

creations of parents or educators should be seen as educational aids and as stimuli for the child’s psyche, imagination and life skills.(3)The manner children approach a game, their choice of game and the emphasis they place upon it, show their attitude to their environment and fellow human beings.(4)Their being hostile or friendly and

particularly showing leadership qualities are evident in their play.(5)In observing

children at play one can see their attitude to life: play is a matter of great concern for

every child.

(6)Play is considered to be preparation for life; it is a strong socializing factor.

(7)Games are communal exercises enable children to develop their social feeling.

(8)Children which avoid games are always open to the suspicion that they have not

adjusted satisfactorily to life.(9)They either tend to withdraw from all games or tend to spoil the pleasure of others.(10)Pride, lack of self-confidence and the consequent fear of 'getting it wrong’ are the three main reasons for which they behave so.(11)However, by watching children at play one can assess the extent and quality of their social feeling. feeling.(12)Play reveals the goal of superiority what betrays itself in the child’s tendency to be the leader and organizer.(13)One can discover this tendency by watching how children push themselves forward and to what degree they are keen in those games who give them an opportunity to satisfy their desire to play the leading role.

(14)There are very few games do not incorporate one of these factors: preparation for

life, social feeling and the striving for dominance.

B. (15)There is one more factor which is inherent at play: the possibility of expressing

themselves, which might be particularly difficult to some kids lacking creativity.(16)There are a number of games that especially emphasize this creative bent, and only children with imagination are capable in taking part in them.(17)Still, some psychologists argue that in the preparation for the future profession those games provide the opportunity for children to exercise their creative skills which are particularly important.(18)For example, many people who used to make dresses for dolls in childhood went on to make dresses for adults in later life.

(19)All in all, play, which is a kind of profession, is indivisibly bound up to the psyche.(20)Therefore, it is not a trivial matter to disturb children while their play that should never be reduced merely for a way to passing time.(21)With regard for the goal to preparing for the future all children have in them something of the adult they will become.(22)Thus, there is no denying that games equip children of essential physical, social and even artistic skills.

A. These statements are taken from the students’ papers. Decide which of these statements are relevant to the topic “The advantages and disadvantages of going to university immediately on leaving school”.

1. Entering university on leaving school deprives young people of an opportunity to make a break in the educational process and have a rest or earn some money to provide for themselves during the later course of studies.

2. Taking a gap year before entering university helps young people to understand their own interests, to gain some useful life experience and finally to choose a more suitable course of studies.

3. The earlier young people enter university, the more opportunities their parent have to provide them with money.

4. If one does not have a vaguest idea of what he wants to do in life, prolonging the gap between school and university might only strengthen doubts because the person is not.mature enough to assess his aims in life.

5. Going to university after school may not satisfy some demands of young people, in particular those who are keen to get practical skills.

6. Entering university early facilitates the process of socialization.

7. Early matriculation prevents one from gaining practical knowledge, which could be useful for his/her future profession.

8. If one does not go to university on leaving school he/she is unlikely to have time to get higher education afterwards, being busy with work and providing for the family.

9. Going to university immediately on leaving school facilitates the process of studying because the person has not lost the learning skills acquired at school.
