Тема 6: Австралия.
Практическое занятие – 2 часа
1. Актуальность темы:
Австралия настолько интересна, что сложно представить с чего начать описывать эту страну. Самый изолированный континент на планете с самыми оригинальными вещами. Прекрасные пляжи, погода — еще лучше! Отличная еда, музыка и очень приятные люди. Эта страна похожа на старый Лос–Анджелес. A place to visit at least once in a lifetime for sure!
2. Цели занятия:
Учебные цели. Знать: лексический материал по теме; грамматический материал: неличные формы глагола – инфинитив. Студенты должны уметь правильно читать и переводить тексты; составить правильно сообщение по теме, используя активную лексику занятия и ранее изученный грамматический материал.
Воспитательные цели:
Воспитывать чувство взаимопонимания, дружбы, уважения к стране изучаемого языка; воспитывать культуру поведения, умение слышать и слушать.
Развивающие цели:
способствовать развитию критического мышления, развивать навыки поиска новой информации, умения высказывать свое мнение и обосновывать его, вскрывать неверные утверждения и спокойно приводить контрдоводы, развивать внимание, способность анализировать, сопоставлять, обобщать, делать выводы; формировать навыки работы в группе.

Australia
Australia is the only country in the world that is also a continent. It is the sixth large country and the smallest continent. Australia lies between the South Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. It is situated about 11 000 km southwest of North America and about 8200 km southeast of mainland Asia. The name of the country comes from Latin word «australis» which mean southern. The country's official name is Commonwealth of Australia.
The Commonwealth of Australia is a federation of states. Australia has six states — New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Each state has its government. Australia has two territories — the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. The capital of the country is Canberra.
Australia is a constitutional monarchy like Great Britain. The? nation is administered under written constitution. The British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, is also queen of Australia and country's head of state. But the queen has little power in the Australian government. She serves mainly as a symbol of long historical tie between Great Britain and Australia. Australia is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations which is an association formed by Britain and some of its former colonies.
Australia is one of the world's developed countries. Australia has modern factories, highly productive mines and farms, and busy cities. It is the world's leading producer of wool and bauxite <the ore from which aluminium is made). It also produces and exports large amounts of other minerals and farm goods. Income from the export enables Australians to have high standard of living. The most important trading partners of Australia are Japan and the United States.

The Commonwealth of Australia is a federation of states. Australia has six states — New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia. Each state has its government.
About 23 million people live in Australia nowadays. The natives of the country are called Aborigines. Now they occupy a very small part of the country’s population due to the former extrusion of the native people in the past.
The capital of Australia is Canberra. All the government buildings are situated there.
The capital is also the home of many cultural institutions, such as Australian National University, National Gallery, National Museum, Royal Military College, Australian Institute of Sport and many others.
The largest and the most visited city in Australia is Sydney. With the population of more than 4.6 million people. There is a great number of attractions in Sydney. The most well–known ones are Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral and others.
The country has some unique species of animals, which can’t be found anywhere else. Among them, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, flightless emus, wombats and many others. So, the Australian Zoos can be another place of interest for tourists.
