Charter One. Section 1.

- Hari OM. In the beginning the Spirit was One and all this (universe) was the Spirit; there was nought else that saw. The Spirit Thought, "Lo, I will make me worlds from out mmy being.
Хари ОМ. В начале Дух был Один, и все это (вселенная) было этим Духом; не было ничего другого, что видело. Дух подумал: "Посмотри, Я сделаю себе миры из моего существа."
- These were the worlds he made; ambhar, of the etherial waters, maricih, of light, mara, of death and mortal things, apah, of the lower waters. Beyond the shining firmament are the etherial waters and firmament is their base and resting-place; Space is the world of light; the earth is the world mortal; and below the earth are the lower waters.
Вот те миры, что он создал: ambhar -- [мир] эфирного океана, maricih -- света, mara -- мир смерти и смертных вещей, apah -- мир нижнего океана. За пределами сияющего небесного свода находится эфирный океан, и небесный свод является его основанием и местом отдыха; Пространство -- это мир света; земля -- это смертный мир; и ниже земли находится нижний океан.
- The Spirit thought, "Lo, these are the worlds; +and now will I make me quardians for my worlds." Therefore he gathered the Purusha out of the waters and gave Him shape and substance.
Дух подумал: "Посмотри, вот -- эти миры; и сейчас Я создам себе хранителей для моих миров." Поэтому он собрал Пурушу из этих океанов и дал Ему форму и субстанцию
- Yea, the Spirit brooded over Him and of Him thus brooded over the mouth, as when egg is hatched and breaketh; from the mouth brake Speech and of Speech fire was born. The nostrial broke Sorth and from the nostrils Breath air was born. The eyes brake forth and from the eyes Sight and of Sight the Sun was born. The ears brake forth and from the ears Hearung and of Hearing the regions were born. The Skin brake forth and from the Skin hairs and from the hairs herbs of Healing and all trees and plants were born. The heart brake forth and from the heart Mind and of Mind the moon was born. The navel brake forth and from the navel apana and of Death was born. The organ of pleasure brake Sorth and from brake sorth and from the navel apana and of apana Death was born. The organ of pleasure brake sorth and from the organ seed and of seed the waters were born.
Да, Дух стал сидеть над ним и из Него таким образом высиженного, прорвался рот, словно яйцо, вылупившееся и разбившееся; изо рта вырвалась речь, и из речи родился огонь. Прорвались ноздри, а из ноздрей Дыхание, а из Дыхания родился Воздух. Прорвались глаза, а из глаз Зрение, аа из Зрения родилось Солнце. Прорвались уши, а из ушей Слух, а из Слуха родились части света. Прорвалась Кожа, а из Кожи -- Волосы, а из Волос родились лечебные травы и все деревья и растения. Прорвалось Сердце, а из Сердца Ум, а из Ума родилась Луна. Прорвался Пупок, а из Пупка Апана, а из Апаны родилась Смерть. Прорвался орган удовольствия, а из этого органа семя, а из семени родился океан.

- These were the Gods that He created; they fell into this great Ocean, and Hunger and Thirst leaped upon them. Then they said to Him, "Command into us on habitation that we may dwell secure aand eat of food."
Там были Боги, которых он создал; они спустились в этот великий Океан и, Голод с Жаждой накинулись на них. Тогда они сказали Ему: "Скомандуй нам жилище, чтобы мы могли жить в безопасности и есть пищу."
- He brought into them the cow? but they said, "Verily, it is not sufficient for us." He brought into them the horse, but they said, "Verily, it is not enough for us."
Он принес им корову, но они сказали: "Воистину, это не достаточно для нас." Он принес им лошадь, но они сказали: "Воистину, это не достаточно для нас."
- He brout into them Man? and they said: "O well fasioned truly! Man indid is well and beautiful made." Then the Spirit said into them, "Enter ye in each according to his habitation."
Он принес им Человека, и они сказали: "О, правильно хорошо сформированный! Человек действительно хорош и прекрасно сделан." Тогда Дух сказал им: "Войдите в каждого, согласно его жилищу."
- Fife became Speech and entered into the mouth; Air becamme Breath and entered into the nostries; the Sunn became Sight and entered into the eyes; the Quarters became Hearing and entered innto the ears; Herbs of healing and the plants and trees became Hairs and entered into the skin; the Moon became Mind and entered into the heart; Death became apana, the lower breathing, and entered into the navel; the Waters became Seed and entered into the organ.
Огонь стал Речью и вошел в рот; Воздух стал Дыханием и вошел в ноздри; Солнце стало Зрением и вошло в глаза; Части света стали Слухом и вошли в уши; Лечебные травы и растения, и деревья стали Волосами и вошли в кожу; Луна стала Умом и вошла в Сердце; Смерть стала апаной, нижним дыханием, и вошла в пупок; Океан стал Семенем и вошел в [детородный] орган.
- Then Hunger and Thirst said into the Spirit, "Unto us too command an habitation." But He said unto them, "Even among these gods do I apportion you; lo! I have made you sharers in their godhead." Therefore to whatever god the oblation is offered, Hunger and Thirst surely have their share in the offering.
Тогда Голод и Жажда сказали Духу: "Для нас также скомандуй жилище." Но он сказал им: "Поровну среди этих богов Я поселю вас; смотри! Я сделал вас участниками в их божественности." Поэтому какому бы богу ни приносилась бы жертва, Голод и Жажда уверенно имеют свою долю в этом приношении.
