If this be accepted then the poverty of purely conceptual art becomes apparent. Duchamp's bottle stand and André's pile of bricks are different from any other bottle stand or pile of bricks because, by being placed in the almost sacred space of the gallery, they take on a new meaning. We are not intended to be moved by them, or even admire the craftsmanship (because often there isn't any), but simply to have new thoughts.
What thoughts we are supposed to have is not always clear. Perhaps every work of conceptual art should be supplied with a printed account of what thoughts we should have. Sometimes the thoughts are supplied by art theorists, but then we get what appear to be ordinary words strung together in such a way as to make them incomprehensible. Maybe they should translate them into plain English. Presumably this does not happen, either because there is actually no content, or else because if the project succeeded, the justification for the artwork itself would evaporate. We should merely read the words.
However this analysis is probably unfair. The arrangement of some object in the empty white walled space of the gallery does in fact create a different feeling, a different state, than would reading the words at home. Therefore, whether conceptual art is good or bad, it uses the same method as traditional art: by the arrangement of an object in space it attempts to act on our consciousness in some way, rather than merely evoking new thoughts that we could have had by reading the catalogue. If this is correct then there is no such thing as purely conceptual art, and Duchamp's analysis is wrong.

LE CENTRE NATIONAL DU LIVRE: MAILLON FORT DE LA CHAÍNE DU LIVRE
«Le centre national du livre (CNL) a su trouver sa place au coeur même du monde du livre français dont il est devenu, en 60 ans, un acteur important et apprécié». Un récent rapport pointe ce jugement porté par les professionnels du livre sur le CNL. «une exception culturelle. aucun autre pays n'offrant à sa culture du livre des aides aussi larges et diversifiées», selon 1'auteure de ce rapport, Sophie Barluet.
Disposant d'un budget d'intervention de 22 millions d'euros, le CNL apporte, en effet, un soutien essentiel à la conservation de la diversité et de la qualité de l'offre éditoriale, gage, selon ce rapport, «de liberté, d'innovation, de démocratie, de plaisir». Quelque 18 000 ouvrages ont ainsi bénéficié de l’appui de cet organisme, lequel se caractérise par son ouverture, puisque des professionnels du livre siègent dans son conseil d'administration et participent, au.sein de commissions spécialisées, aux débats sur l'attribution des aides.
Le CNL ne délaisse aucun maillon de la chaîne du livre. Ses interventions répondent «à un objectif culturel et économique: d’ordre culturel par un soutien à la creation littéraire et à la diffusion des oeuvres auprès du public, et d’ordre économique par un soutien à la prise de risque économique qui accompagne les choix».
Le CNL accorde ainsi des prêts, des subventions ou des bourses aux auteurs (projet d'écriture, d'animation littéraire...), aux traducteurs (travail sur un ouvrage difficile, séjour en France...), aux éditeurs (traduction de livres, préparation de projets collectifs lourds, création de collections novatrices d'édition, de sites Internet...) comme aux bibliothèques (développement de fonds thématiques, acquisition de bibliobus [bibliothèques ambulantes]...) et аuх libraires (reprise de commerces indépendants, production de catalogues thématiques, participation à des salons…).

Multimedia – Das Thema der 90er Jahre; zumindest wenn man den Aussagen der Sprecher von Elektronik– und Computerindustrie Glauben schenkt. Aber was ist denn nun “Multimedia” genau? Mit dieser Frage wеrden überwiegend kontroverse Definitionen hervorgerufen, da viele Interessengruppen meinen, ihre eigenen Anliegen in diesen Begriff integrieren zu müssen – oder zu können. Für das eigene Firmenprodukt lässt er sich fast immer einspannen: Ob für eine einzelne Soundkarte mit dem Slogan “Die Eroberung der Multimedia-Welt” geworben wird, ob die blosse Präsentation von ein paar Bildfolgen bereits als multimediale Faszination gepriesen wird oder ob eine Datenbank, die fähig ist, ein paar Bilder mitzuverwalten, gleich als “Multimedia-Datenbank” verkauft wеrden soll. Eine bekannte amerikanische Computerzeitschrift äusserte sich zum Thema: “Sie wissen nicht, was Multimedia ist? Sie werden es wissen, wenn Sie es gesehen und gehört haben.”
Eine zutreffendere Definition durfte wohl sein:
Unter Multimedia kann man das Zusammenspiel von visuellen und akustischen Effekten unter Zuhilfenahme interaktiver Software verstehen.
Mit dieser Aussage wird nämlich deutlich, dass es Multimedia als Produkt an sich gar nicht zu kaufen gibt. Es ist vielmehr ein Sammelbegriff verschiedener Technologien, die auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise in bestimmte Softwareprodukte einfliessen.
